Response to Intervention (RTI) and the COMET® Solution

The 2004 reauthorization of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) facilitated the now widely used RTI framework in school districts around the country. New York State, among other states, is mandating that a RTI program be implemented as part of the evaluation process to determine if a student has a disability.

Meet Your RTI Requirements:

  • Screen children using nationally normed instruments
  • Frequently monitor student progress
  • Refine student goals
  • Use meaningful data-driven reports to make important educational decisions
  • Use research-based validated interventions
  • Use assessments for progress monitoring to determine if academic or behavioral interventions are producing desired outcomes

Solution:

Children’s Institute offers a screening solution to meet your school’s RTI assessment needs in the social and emotional domains. Using our parent, child, and teacher assessments, we provide educators with information in order to ensure high quality instruction and intervention matched to students’ needs. All rating scales and additional measures are completed online and reported immediately by the COMET® Data Collection and Management System.

Assessments available on the COMET® System:

Child Rating Scale (CRS)
Completed by children in grades 2-6 to assess social and emotional health

Parent Appraisal of Children’s Experiences (PACE)
Completed by a parent of a child who is entering kindergarten assessing the following: Family background, general health of child, motor, speech and language, social emotional development, life experiences, and school readiness

Parent-Child Rating Scale (P-CRS)
Completed by parents of children in grades pre-k through 6th. Assesses resiliency in children including initiative, independence, and coping ability

Teacher-Child Rating Scale (T-CRS 2.1)
Completed by teachers of grades pre-k to 12, this nationally normed assessment rates children’s social and emotional development in areas including initiative, independence, and coping ability

The use of evidence-based programs is a RTI requirement. We also offer Primary Project and Children of Divorce Intervention Program (CODIP) to help schools fulfill this requirement.
