The ELP collaborative has designed educational materials to promote language and literacy development in young children, ages 6 and under.

As the lead agency for ELP, Children's Institute oversees the project, administers funds, and facilitates the creation, review, and production processes.

Goals

  • Promote language and literacy development in young children
  • Develop materials and visual aids for home use

Primary Strategies

  • Materials are developed by experts in education
  • Materials are reviewed by community members such as parents, teachers, day care providers, and media representatives
  • Materials are distributed to parents and child care providers

Benefits/Anticipated Outcomes

ELP anticipates that the creation and dissemination of its literacy modules and visual aids will increase the:

  • Numbers of school-ready children in the community
  • Sensitivity to the behaviors of children and adults related to early reading success
  • Awareness of personal beliefs concerning children's literacy development
  • Quantity and quality of research-based, literacy related interactions between adults and children
