Rochester Early Enhancement Project (REEP)

For over 15 years, REEP has been a multi-agency collaborative that promotes the healthy development of families with young children in Rochester, New York. Comprehensive, integrated, and intensive educational programs and services are delivered to families through home visits, in schools, and at neighborhood centers.

By pooling resources and reaching consensus on important issues, each REEP member agency is able to increase services to families. As lead agency, Children’s Institute is responsible for the financial management, coordination, resource development, and evaluation of REEP.

Goals:

  • Promote healthy development of families with young children
  • Increase access and availability of a full-range of programs and services for pregnant and parenting families and their children in the Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest quadrants of Rochester, NY
  • Increase the impact of multiple collaborating agencies through identifying and sharing resources and opportunities

Primary Strategies:

  • Services are provided to children and families in the home through home visiting programs, in schools through prekindergarten and parent programs, and in local community-based agencies through on-site programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families
  • Agencies maximize services by sharing services and referring families to programs that support young families

Benefits:

Ongoing research and evaluation of REEP has shown its successes:

  • Families gain access to appropriate services immediately as their needs are identified
  • Children are born healthy and at a healthy weight
  • Children develop stronger social, cognitive, language, and school adjustment skills
  • Parents acquire increased understanding of children’s age-appropriate behavior, and confidence in their parenting abilities
  • Collaborating agencies are more in touch with the people they serve and learn from each other how to improve programs and service delivery
