More about A.C.T.-For the Children (Assisting Children through Transition)
Divorce affects more than three million people annually-about the same number of people are born each year. A.C.T.-For the Children is an innovative prevention program that helps reduce the impact and long-term effects of divorce or separation on children by teaching their parents how to contain conflict and act in the best interest of their children.
A.C.T.-For the Children classes are conducted by psychologists, social workers, judges, lawyers, and mediators to help families deal with the stress of a breakup. Participants attend two classes, one week apart, in which they learn the skills needed to keep their children and family healthy, such as effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, establishing a business-like relationship with a former partner, and strengthening parent-child relationships. Lectures, role-plays, video tapes, and discussion are the instructional tools used in the classroom.
A.C.T.-For the Children began in 1998 as a joint effort between Children's Institute and the Seventh Judicial District of New York State and builds on the success of our Children of Divorce Intervention Program (CODIP).
