Planning for A Successful Year with Primary Project

Planning for A Successful Year with Primary Project

02 Sep 2025

As educators, we go into the year feeling a new excitement for what’s ahead. We have planned — and now we are ready to do! At the same time, the school year is not a race, it is a journey. To maintain enthusiasm and show up every day for students we have to find a rhythm that works. Here are some ideas for Primary Project teams as the year gets underway to help you set your pace:

  • Plan your program year: Taking time to map out the year including key activities such as screening, a targeted start date, post data collection, supervision, professional development, etc., sets the program up for success!
  • Attend professional development: Training is critical regardless of how long you have been involved in Primary Project.  Seek out opportunities that interest you and  relevant to Primary Project. Reach out to your program consultant with questions.
  • Carve out time for supervision: Best practices indicate a minimum of 24 hours annually for clinical/programmatic supervision. Program supervisors and child associates should meet regularly throughout the course of the year.
  • Identify ways to have meaningful connections/communications with families: There are many opportunities to inform and engage with families of Primary Project students. Figure out what works best for your school community and try it out!
  • Connect with teachers and administrators: Reorient teachers to what Primary Project is and the kinds of students that benefit most from the intervention. Take time to announce key dates and expectations for teachers about when and how they can support the program. Share program outcome data with teachers, administrators, and district leaders.
  • Do what makes you happy: Taking time every day to do the things that you find joy in, whether it is a quick walk, meditation, or connecting with a colleague.  Doing what you need helps keep you present and engaged!

Best wishes for a great year ahead!
