RAPP Supports Play!

At the Rochester Area Parent Program (RAPP), we believe that play is more than just fun—it’s a powerful tool for connection, learning, and growth. Through our online parenting classes for caregivers of children ages 2–8, the Chicago Parent Program’s online curriculum, ezParent, introduces simple, effective strategies that make a big difference. This curriculum and our online classes offer strategies for parents and caregivers that are designed to reduce behavior problems in young children by strengthening parenting skills and confidence.
One of the first and most impactful? Child-Centered Time.
What is Child-Centered Time?
It’s a daily practice where YOU follow your child’s lead—whether they want to build with blocks, draw, dance, or just be silly. You focus on their interests, letting them guide the activity while you offer your full attention.
Why it matters:
- Builds trust and emotional connection
- Boosts your child’s confidence and sense of competence
- Helps reduce behavior challenges over time
- Strengthens your relationship—one playful moment at a time
Whether it’s five minutes or fifteen, consistent child-centered play shows your child they matter. And when kids feel seen and heard, amazing things happen.
So today, pause and PLAY. Let your child take the lead—you might be surprised by how much you both enjoy it!
P.S. This strategy works well with teenagers and adults too!
