Rochester's Lights On Afterschool Event

16 October 2019 |

Lights on Afterschool is a nationwide celebration, focused on highlighting the important learning experiences that take place during out of school time programs and events for young people.

Rochester's own Greater Rochester After School Alliance (GRASA) has been hard at work planning this year's local celebration, and is anticipating over 300 youth and families will attend.

WHEN: Thursday, October 24, 2019

WHERE: The Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County, 115 South Ave, Rochester, 14604

The event will begin at MLK Park, where youth will participate in the Play Walk Ribbon Cutting. The Play Walk is a new downtown trail that connects The Strong Museum of Play to Central Library and ROC the Riverway projects. From 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm, attendees will celebrate the grand opening of the new space that provides all children and families downtown with a place to play and have fun, and then travel down Court Street to Central Library.

At Central Library, the celebration will continue with hands-on activities and demonstrations throughout the building. GRASA will also join with the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation, the Monroe County Youth Bureau, Rochester Museum & Science Center, and the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester to announce Rochester Kids Engaging in Technology and Science (ROCKETS), a  six-month STEM education partnership designed to expose youth to fields of study that are the foundation for careers in our region.
